WIDE Screen TV

Oh you have a wide screen TV. What's that, an 80 incher? Well isn't that special.

Back up, wimp. Feast your eyes on a real man's wide screen... 370 inches of gobsmacking goodness. That's 30.8 feet, 9.4 meters, 10.3 yards, 0.00507 Nautical miles, well you get the picture...
Oh wait... since it's a pretty good bet you're one of the 99%, you haven't got the $1,700,000 USD (£1,000,000) plus tax & tags, to be able to watch Debbie Does Dallas in 65 million colors and 4k resolution.

Pity... had to have my minions the authorities eminent domain and destroy the neighbor's homes for a couple miles. You know, to keep them from watching my screen.
Be a dear and peel me a grape.

In my new job I am learning about video walls and blended projectors...

...which can produce a much larger image than that for a quarter the price

Sure, I've seen those used a lot of places and they look good, but with that setup it's a lot harder to claim largest after seeing the ones they setup for shows at Wembly, or Yankee Stadium or Rio. You'd also have to displace a lot more neighbors

There'd still be nothing worth watching and you'd have to sit in the next parish not to watch it.

What are they using the system for?

They are manufacturing the circuits and firmware and drivers needed to create such things, and selling them to distributors of audio-visual products. People use the video walls for lots of things, like for security, and network operations centers, and conventions, theatres, big-ass churches, everything.

I had the chance to get close to one of those walls at the R&R Hall of Fame. I was amazed how it looked bad at 3 feet while it looked great at 6 or more. I thought it would take a bigger transition, but I guess what they were playing would make a difference. Some have a stripe between each screen like a window mullion. It was interesting how my brain would quickly disregard them, like I was looking out a window.

The screen bezel, the plastic bit that goes around the border, has to be carefully programmed out by the wall builder. I learned that last week. This week I am going to try to do it. I only have four screens, but it's something.
