7/4: Coated birds

Penguin mannequins model newly-knitted protective woolen coats in Launceston, Tasmania. Australia's fairy penguins are set for both the winter and oil spills after over 1,000 tiny woollen jerseys were specially knitted and sent from as far away as Japan to the Island state of Tasmania.

The jerseys, which cover the 40cm (15 inches) tall penguins from neck to ankle, stop oil-coated birds preening themselves and ingesting poisonous oil. The woollen jersey appeal was initiated by the Tasmanian Conservation Trust after oil spills on the coast of Tasmania but were inundated by jerseys made by elderly ladies in nursing homes who often made the outfits in their favorite football teams' colors.

Let's see... I use the internet for checking on the traffic on my website www.enamelist.com answering queries that I get from it and on a few occasions, selling something. I also use it for investment information, both checking on my own and researching stocks or companies. I get travel information also. I read news though not every day and check on weather if something unusual is going on. That is all in addition to email, of course.

Most interesting statistics...

By the way, Jag, Tony and a friend did my website.

And Tony insisted that I become web literate. Every time he would upgrade his computer, I would get his old one -- until the most recent. I even suffered with DOS though never learned more than I needed for what I had to do.

All very interesting.......I find that everyone i know my age uses the internet *alot* all but 3 people i can think of use one IM program (ICQ is the most dominant, just), to the point where its become part of culture. I still don't like DOS myself (no TAB key to finish commands for you =) but wow, thats great to hear.

I'm curious though (again, curiousity killed the cat and now its after me) what made you choose Enamel as a medium to work with, i've never seen it as art before its fantastic.

I fell in love with enamel. I wanted to take a weeklong workshop in pottery, but there weren't enough signed up for the class so that I was switched to the enameling class. Fortunately I had a good teacher. The color produced by transparent enamels is so brilliant and wonderful.
And I love color.
