Home At Last...Again!

Well, my boy is home. He was released this afternoon, and is now sitting on my couch watching his favorite 80's Stephen King film.

Beats the hell out of watching holiday programming while stuck in the hospital, I'd say. Thanks again to everyone who has lent support and said so many nice things. I haven't had a chance to drag him to the computer to view his 'get well card' thread yet, but I will do so tomorrow night, and give him an opportunity to deliver his thanks in 'person' (meaning he'll type using my login).

He's still got a couple of weeks recuperation to do here with us before he's ready to head back to his own apartment, but man, it is *so* much easier having him home!

Here's a terribly candid shot of the poor lad, busying himself this evening by removing some of his medications from the demonic packaging the pharmacy decided to furnish it in this time, for some unfathomable reason.

As long as he doesn't develop an infection again, his prognosis is back to his old self. Repeated compressions and re-expansions of his brain don't seem to have done any permanent damage, but he is still a bit more scattered than he was before all this started. Understandable, I think, given the fact that he's done more than his share of morphine, hydrocodone and Lortab over the past month or so. I'd be spacey, too. Come to think of it, I *am*, and I didn't even get any good drugs through all of this.

He's pretty tuckered out. For some reason, spending lots of time in a hospital bed turns out to be not at all restful...

He's not completely out of the woods yet, but he's well enough right now to be out of the hospital, so we'll take that, and hope that he just grows more hair and not more staph bacteria.

Great to see him relaxing at home.

I do think you're right, once the pain meds are out of his system you'll see more of the Stephen you're used to. Some people get really, really nutty, particularly when they are in ICU (where the lights are never off and the activity level is about the same 24-hours a day). The lack of any real time-sense plus the normal wooziness of pain meds and problems related to whatever got you there to begin with can result in a condition called "ICU psychosis."

Glad you didn't have to go through any of that.

Now, which SK movie did he watch? Inquiring minds want to know ...

Silver Bullet. He identifies heavily with 'underdog' films, and the kid in the wheelchair really fills that bill for him.

Unfortunately, the drugs are anticonvulsants and the pussy has some sort of a rash right now, so really, the remote is all that is well and truly good in what could have been male Nirvana.
