Norristown man accused of murdering mother over Internet account

By Stephanie L. Arnold

INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

A Norristown woman was stabbed 27 times with six knives this week after an argument with her son over an Internet account, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said today.

Derek Wayne Jackson, 18, of the 400 block of East Moore Street in Norristown, was charged today with first- and third-degree murder in the slaying of Karen Jackson, 49, after he confessed to police that he planned the crime, then attempted to rid the crime scene of any evidence, according to court records.

According to a police affidavit, Derek Jackson entered his mother's locked room on Monday, used her computer, and attempted to create a new account with America Online. When his mother walked in and found him creating the account, they began to argue, he said.

Early Tuesday, as Karen Jackson prepared for work, Derek Jackson retrieved four knives from the kitchen and waited for her to finish showering, the affidavit said. He then followed his mother into her bedroom and began stabbing her.

After he stabbed her 18 times, he stopped, ran downstairs to retrieve two more knives, and stabbed her again, documents state. Once he had finished stabbing her, he beat his mother in the head with a wooden stick.

Police said they were called to the scene after they received a call from a family friend, who spoke with Derek Jackson's sister Tuesday around 7:40 p.m.

Police said Jackson's sister told her friend to call police after a disturbing conversation with Derek Jackson.

After police knocked on the door, Jackson came outside with his hands raised and told police, "I had a situation... a murder," the affidavit said.

Police found Karen Jackson's body inside her home wrapped in a comforter and plastic bags and packing tape. Police said Derek Jackson told authorities that he used bleach, paper towels and plastic bags to clean the crime scene and the knives to "reduce the DNA at the scene." He then placed the cleaning items, along with the stick he used and the sweatpants he wore during the murder, in the trunk of his sister's car and parked it in front of the a fried-chicken restaurant on Main Street in Norristown.

That the internet account is an extension of the man's penis? Actually I don't know but I'm sure it would involve cock. Freud loved the cock.

Sometimes the golf club you pick for the long drive isn't the right one?

(If he turns out to be crazy, and I'm not saying I know anything specifically about that, that might become clear. For now I'm sticking with the golf club analogy, as it sounds good to me. Frankly I was impressed by the attempt to remove the DNA. Totally out of character for anyone from The Borough.)

DA: Son slays mother
By: CARL HESSLER JR. , For The Times Herald

COURTHOUSE - A Norristown teenager, angry that his mother wouldn't allow him to set up an Internet account on a home computer, allegedly stabbed and beat his mother to death Tuesday morning, according to prosecutors.

"Arguing over an AOL account, the cheapness of life in Norristown is very disturbing," said Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr., referring to the alleged actions of 18-year-old Derek Wayne Jackson.
Jackson, of the 400 block of East Moore Street, was arraigned Wednesday before District Justice Francis J. Lawrence Jr. on charges of first- and third-degree murder, possessing instruments of crime, abuse of corpse and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with the death of his mother, Karen Jackson.

Jackson is being held without bail at the county jail pending his preliminary hearing.

According to a criminal complaint, relatives of Karen Jackson became concerned about her after speaking with Derek Jackson on the telephone on Tuesday and alerted Norristown police to check on the woman's well being.
When police went to the Moore Street home at 8 p.m., the teenager answered the door and told police, "I had a situation inside. A murder," according to the criminal complaint. When they entered the home, police found Karen Jackson's body wrapped in a comforter and plastic bags, Castor said. She was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy determined she died from multiple stab wounds.

The investigation revealed that Jackson and his mother got into an argument on Monday night when his mother arrived home to find that a padlock on her bedroom door had been removed. Karen Jackson learned that Derek was inside her room accessing her computer and attempting to create a new America Online account, according to county Detective Samuel Gallen and Norristown Detective Robert Robbins.

"Based upon the argument over the AOL account, the defendant planned the murder of his mother," Castor said.

On Tuesday morning, while Karen Jackson got dressed for work, Derek retrieved four knives from the kitchen, investigators alleged. When his mother exited a bathroom, Jackson followed her into her bedroom and began stabbing her, Castor said.

"After stabbing Karen Jackson 17 or 18 times, with four knives he originally took upstairs, he said he then ran downstairs and got two more knives," Robbins wrote in the arrest affidavit. "Derek then went back upstairs to where Karen Jackson was laying and stabbed her 10 more times with the additional knives."

Jackson allegedly told detectives he also used a wooden stick to strike his mother in the head, according to the criminal complaint.

After killing his mother, Jackson used packing tape to wrap his mother's body in bed covers and trash bags, detectives alleged. Jackson also allegedly used bleach to clean the crime scene and the knives.

"Derek said he cleaned the house to reduce the DNA at the scene," Gallen wrote in the criminal complaint.

Jackson hid the cleaning items, along with the stick and the sweatpants he wore during the alleged murder, in the trunk of a relative's car, according to the criminal complaint.

"He wrapped the body up and went to great pains to try to destroy evidence or to hide it," Castor said.

My nephew gets livid when his mom makes him get off the computer. As much as I hate to say this, parents really need to set limits on how much time their kids spend doing stuff. Remember when these stories were only about drug addicts and nutcases? I'm starting to wonder if constantly being "plugged in" is the new heroin.

Ok guys, do you really want to be seen agreeing with Hillary Clinton?

"Exposing our children to so much of this unchecked media," she said, "is a kind of contagion," a "silent epidemic" that threatens "long-term public health damage to many, many children and therefore to society."

Hillary is moving to the center for a presidential run. She can't be held responsible for her actions, poor dear. Her left-wing wackoness will resurface in 2009, one way or the other.
