On December 18, 2007, it was announced in an article in OK! Magazine, to be released on December 19, 2007, that Jamie-Lynn is 12 weeks pregnant.

She and her mother spoke to the magazine in an exclusive interview. Nickelodeon, the network that carries Spears' series Zoey 101, issued the following statement shortly after the announcement:[4][5][6][7]

"We respect Jamie-Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

The father is Casey Aldridge, 18 at the time,[8] whom she met through church.[9] Spears stated shortly before Thanksgiving that she had no steady boyfriend.[10]

That's hilarious, the irony of where they met that is. Teen pregnancy is dumb IMO.

IN yet another twist to the Spears family saga, Britney's pregnant teenage sister Jamie Lynn is reported to be marrying the father of her unborn child, Casey Aldridge.

Jamie Lynn Spears, 16, who revealed on Tuesday that she is expecting her first child, is reportedly "desperate" to marry her 17-year-old boyfriend, despite her parents' hesitations.

A source close to the Spears family said: "Jamie Lynn and Casey want to get married really bad. But both sets of parents don't think they should. They think they are too young and should wait.

"The problem with Jamie Lynn is that she is a teenager. She doesn't understand the ramifications. She's just a child with not a lick of sense.

"There's no reasoning with her. Jamie Lynn is not thinking 10 years down the road - not even two years down the road."

Sometimes I feel as if the government knows exactly what is doing by promoting abstinence-only education and that it's a deliberate program to raise the US birthrate and promote marriage,

My son loves the show.

I think it's beyond lame, even allowing for the fact that it's not exactly aimed at my demographic.

However they dress all the young ladies in short little outfits that, near as I can tell, would have been grounds for arrest when I was my son's age. And yeah, I admit, I check them out a little bit. I mean hey, it's Nickelodeon. It must be innocent, right?

It depends on where the baby was conceived, and how old Casey actually is, neither of which are certain:

If the baby was conceived in California, where Spears filmed “Zoey 101” for Nickelodeon, and where she and Aldridge have often been spotted together, Aldridge could have committed a crime.

California law makes a distinction in the weight of the crime charged, based on the age of the people involved. Because Aldridge is not more than three years older than Spears, getting her pregnant in California could be a misdemeanor under state law.

As for the potential penalty, prosecutors could push for up to a year in jail.

In Louisiana, the state in which Spears said she plans to raise her baby, Aldridge is up for just one penalty, dependant on whether he is 18 or 19.

If he is 18, no crime has been committed.

If he is 19, however, Aldridge could be charged with a felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. The maximum penalty for the felony could be up to 10 years in prison, with or without hard labor.

In Aldridge’s home state of Mississippi, where he reportedly works as a pipe layer, statutory rape only applies to sex with persons 15 years of age or younger.

He's incredibly unlikely to be charged, in any case.
