Always wanted to know....

...but kind of too nervous to ask. You know the sort of thing.

I should like to know how to do that thing, where you write to someone offering them a link, but instead of typing in the link, offer it as a word in the text which provides the link when they 'ding' on it. I do apologise for asking what might be an annoying/simplistic/everybody except me knows this type of question.
PS. I am blonde...

Write the word, as a matter of fact you can write the whole sentence.
Then "highlight" the word, you know, drag your cursor (mouse) over it with the left button held down so it changes color.
Now left click on the globe & chain icon, top center under the white smilie.
A pop-up should appear, unless you're pop-up blocker stops it, that says "Script Prompt, Enter your URL". Write in the URL you want to link. Click OK.
Submit Reply... unless you want to add to the post in which case finish the post then submit.

OK?

[BOL] Smile? Because somebody asked how to do something they didn't know how to do? How would you find out how to do, one of the many things you don't know how to do? If your from the computer generation, there's a shitload of them, too.

Take a look at the Feb. 6th, IOtD thread. Read how many people benefited from one person asking what seemed like a basic question. [End Of Lecture]

Many many thanks Bruce. Fingers crossed this will take you to the building almost next door to me, whereI will be having lunch in a couple of hours while arranging a conference to take place in the summer. I hope this works...

I don't mind Fresh smiling at my ignorance, or is it my willingness to ask for help? Let me know when I can help with your doctoral thesis Fresh, I won't mock your youth, promise.

It looks like a lovely venue.... but where are the sample menus? How am I supposed to vicariously enjoy your lunch if they won't tell me what it is?

(Starving at the moment in case you can't guess)

I was goofing on Fresh, nothing serious, just reminding everyone that the old saw, "there's no such thing as a stupid question," holds true here too.
Glad it worked for you, looks like a great venue.

It is a really nice place and a pleasant conference venue and the bog standard conference menus are outstandingly boring, you know the sort of thing, unimaginative sarnies and quiche, sausages and scotch eggs and a basket of fresh fruit. I have to keep costs down otherwise we might have gone for the Chinese menu.

Lunch in the public restaurant for me was far to hearty though and I shall have to go for a little lie down shortly. Roast lamb and all the etceteras. And yes I'm stuffed. All my weightwatchers points in one meal...

xoxoxo Bruce I just sent an e-mail to my very precious stepson with one of those wicked links in. He's 21 now and studying Computer Sciences at London University and I taught him how to switch on his first one. I'm not sure at which point he flew past me but the thing about the computer is as long as you know enough about it to make it do what you want , you don't actually need to know much more. Thanks again though for the link thing, I shall be doing it all day now

Why is there not a FAQ with things like this, inserting pics, youtube links, quoting, making lists, etc, with screen shots?
I used to make them in PowerPoint at work for EXCEL and the like, they were fun for the learners. Would be helpful for many I think.
