Vancouver Riots

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13788491

They're reporting on the radio that several people were prepared with gas masks..... so some clearly came intending to riot. Reminds me so much of the bad old days in English Football/Soccer.

Stupid Canadians.

Everybody knows that you're only supposed to riot and burn down parts of your city when your team wins.

Same here in France when we have a soccer game between Paris and Marseille.

A French singer called those supporters as being fed on hatred and beer.

I guess it's the same everywhere in the world whatever the game.

Maybe they like to burn the candle at both ends, so to speak?

I wonder how much financial and economic stress plays a part in people's desire to riot? Is rioting less likely to happen when the economy is good? People have more to lose? Is a hockey loss just an excuse for showing general disgruntlement?

I think that people are becoming more and more lawless as a whole. The respect for other's property that I grew up with just isn't there anymore.

Then there's my whole density theory.

Much like Malthus' rats, there is a maximum allowable population density for humans. Once that level is exceeded, people start eating each other, just like the rats, only without the cannibalism (most of the time). That's why crime, especially violent crime is higher in the city than the Suburbs.

I'm not a real doctor, but I do have a master's degree.

Philly fans do bad things to fans of other teams.

And Santa Claus.

The loss was just an excuse to riot. Then it turned into a party for the rioters and they had fun tearing up the city and looting.

You can see them having fun in all the facebook pictures. Posing in front of burning cop cars with big smiles.

Lots of photographic evidence if the cops have an interest.

Yeah, a few years back there was a riot at my university and a bunch of people got expelled because they took pictures of themselves trying to flip cars that stuff. Idiots.

But if you are going to riot, at least wear a hood or put a bandanna over your face or something...

Its hockey. If the players could burn down the ice, they would. Fights and violence increase ratings. It's encouraged.

You are far better qualified than me, but I've been hearing that everything is going to hell in a handbasket for far too long to believe it.

Some people are prone to rioting. It's just human nature.
Many of those people live in Greece or France, it's true. But there are plenty scattered about who will use sport as an excuse as opposed to politics.

Rioters al around the world destroy things that they have paid for, have need of, will probably end up missing - or at least their fellow citizens will. There's no logic in it and no real reason to look for any.

Just sweep away the broken glass, shrug and hope that any fines imposed at least cover the cost of the trial. Oh and if you know the identity of any rioter, go and smash their windows and set fire to their car...

I'm wondering who contributed the shirt that asshole is stuffing down the gas tank. The perp looks fully clothed - did he rip it off someone else's back or was it donated?
