Black Friday

A line in this article on our local News site made me snigger a little:

Quote:
Chat with shoppers who look like they’ve been camping out in line for hours. Consider asking why they didn’t just work some extra hours and pay for a full-priced TV.

That's funny. It's such an obsession!

Me? I won't go near anywhere I don't have to on Black Friday. *shudders*

I avoid painkillers like the plague -even after surgery. But only because beer is more fun

You enjoy life too much for those. The pain meds are all about "Just say NO to life"

Was it arthroscopic or open?

You besmirch me?

Painkillers are all about "Just say NO to pain."

And YES to constipation.

Cor that didn't take long did it?

So back to topic, I've never done Black Friday or Mauve Thursday before, but I got up at 5 this morning (Thursday) to score an Xbox something thingy package from Meijer (Sales started 6am, lines started midnight). I said to beest "oh I'm always awake at that time, I might as well give it a try......" not this morning..... I had to haul myself from my pit and wish I could go back but it's light now, so you're stuck with me....

anyway........

got in line about 5:45........

by the time it started moving the line was 3 times as long as when I joined....

the woman in front of me got the last one in the pile.....

.....and they fished the one out of the display case for me.

*phew*

all else were disappoint. I didn't dare look behind me as I swiped my card, then I slunk away with my purchase in a black bag like an alky with their paper bag

Reminds me of how the Evil Ex got his first step on the property ladder in London.
A conversion project hit a cashflow problem and were holding an event to get people to sign up for apartments still being converted (in an old factory). You had to have a mortgage agreement in writing (subject to T&C and all sorts of course) proof of idenity and all this and all that. But the bottom line was you turned up on the day and queued and got the chance of a flat in London at a feasible amount.

We intended to stay up all night but instead had too much exy-sexy and fell asleep. Luckily I'd set my alarm for 05.00 and with nothing on the roads we were there by 06.30 (I was his designated driver). The office opened at 10.30. Many people had camped out overnight. When the staff realised that, they handed out tickets to the first, enabling them to go home for the night. We were about 15th in line of those without tickets.

We made pals in the line - as you do. Holding places, getting eachother tea & coffee and bacon sarnies from the very surprised cafe round the corner. The line stretched out of view behind us.

Once the office opened we were ushered in, in batches. Sat with nothing to do, but at least sitting on chairs, not pavement. Chap who had had a ticket came up to me - "Do you want this? I was only after a penthouse and they've gone now."
Oh yeah!
Evil Ex got the last available flat in the place.
AND I paid his deposit.
Sigh. I called it love back then. Now I know it's just financial irresponsibility.

LAPD still undecided on charges in Wal-Mart pepper spraying
Quote:
Los Angeles police Saturday said they have not yet decided whether to seek
charges against a woman who doused a crowd of Thanksgiving night shoppers
with pepper spray at a Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch.

The woman, who has not been identified, turned herself in to police Friday night
after video of the incident was broadcast.
<snip>
In a separate report, one person is quoting a rumor that:
Quote:
The ACLU, NRA, PGoA*,MGMC**, and Chamber of Commerce
are joining together for the first time in history to support
a grown woman's rights under the 2nd Amendment.

I was all kind of meh about my chances, but as I got right to the head of the line and realized I was almost there and they actually were running out it all got a bit nerve-wracking....

The store assistant who served me then announced over the tannoy they had sold out was obnoxious, exclaiming loudly afterwards that she got so much satisfaction out of telling everyone they were SOL or words to that effect.
