Poem: Zoned Out of My Mind

If I seem to be ignoring you, don't take it personally.
Just because I'm not paying you some attention doesn't mean I'm some sort of uncaring asshole.
Assumption only makes YOU the ass.
I'm probably just in the zone...
Trying to get somewhere
Attempting to figure out the stupid controller on the game console
Thinking of something on a grand scale
Developing some easy money idea
Wishing I could conquer that asinine computer program

You see, the powers that be have been trying to weed the selfishness out of us for some time now.
Noble idea, but we can't quite rid ourselves of it
Otherwise we wind up being whores...always giving to others while abandoning ourselves
I'm just trying to find a comfort point
So that I can deal with you and me with little discomfort and ultimate ease

So if you wouldn't mind
Just allow me to be selfish for a little while
I'm just trying to find the equidistance between me and you.
And I'm sure our paths will cross again another day

Nice poem Mr. Blastenberri. What's your middle name?

Any name that has the word "blast" in it is cool.

Is that anything like the famed Bronx Raspberry, only more, uh, Southern?

(I'm guessing the middle name has to be something geeky like "Leopold.")

What defines this piece as a poem as opposed to a rant, statement, declaration, musings, etc. ? Intent?

It could best be described as "free verse," though purists and poem nazis might call it "prose."

Poetry is like it's parent subject, art...it's in the eye of the beholder.

Ah, yes, poetry is great. Mostly because it is so versatile. I have been using it to deal with my emotions for so many years, I don't feel right unless I churn some out once in a while. It's a poem if the author says so.

or if it rhymes....then even if you don't mean it to be, it's still a poem.....on the other hand...

roses are red
violets are blue
most poems rhyme
but this one doesn't

You don't see Syc revealing his middle name these days - but he did do it once upon a time and I caught it :-)

There was a time when I even wouldn't reveal my full first name. I will now, but the middle name is a closely guarded secret.
