Militarist Credibility
I couldn't help but be struck by the different receptions Clinton and Bush have received while cravenly taking advantage of the sacrifices of the WWII generation. Neither man did any true service to this country. Clinton could have served his country by openly resisting and Bush could have actually served. Both men failed in the test of their supposed ideals. I guess Bush gets a pass because he's killed more Americans.

I've been concerned about the military's credibility for a while now, but what's your point. I mean were you going somewhere with this or just vocalizing, so to speak?
I mean it was really stupid to demote a mid-level general, who happens to be female, for shoplifting. You get deal with tokenism, stereotyping and discrimination all in one swell foop.

My concern is that neither President did well by his military personel but Bush seems to get a pass because he's better at faking concern for this group and plays the conservative. Bush has credibility among militarists while Clinton did not. I suppose that Bushes absurd spending in related industries creates a positive buzz for him among retired personel in "private" industry that carries over to those who are still serving and hope to cash in after. This line of thinking was sparked by the similarity of the images of the Presidents when Clinton went over for D-Day and Bush went over for VE Day. Somehow Bush is credible when honoring the veterans while Clinton was an obvious fraud... I guess I'm just vocalizing.

I'm not sure that they would have demoted a male general for shoplifting. It just doesn't seem to have the feel of something they would do. Anyone who has been in the military may know what I'm saying. It's not a fact, it's just a really strong hunch.
