				Identify this painting.

I'm trying to find the artist behind this painting... Not much to go on, other than the small image, I'm afraid. Trying to help a friend. Normally, I'd go to my sister, for such things, as she's quite the art boffin, but, she's hard to get ahold of, these days; so I've come here, in the hopes of finding someone to help. I shall hang my head in shame, if it's an obviously world-renowned artist, and a world-famous painting.

I actually looked that up, thinking my girlfriend's dad was just playing a mean trick on her. (He's the one who asked her to find ((by any means)) the artist of the aforementioned painting.) You, sir, will receive anthrax, in the mail! (I'll bet secret service agents will swiftly be crashing through my windows, and spiriting me away to some secret location, under the misguided belief that my humourous threat was, in fact, a threat to the national security of America!)

reminds me a bit of Tamara de Limpicka's style in some ways. I'll ask Homesquirell tomorrow. Art history degree and all that. It also has a little of the Thos. Hart Benton look to it as well. MAybe this is from the same time period? 1920's -early 30's

I'd also put it in the 1930's. It is similar to some of Ross Dickinson's work. A lot of artists were using that style then. Last edited by glatt; 06-03-2010 at 08:00 AM. |

I just figured it was a Lawren Harris painting myself and came here to post it and you scooped me. Well done. Edit: And while you got the artist right, the painting is actually Bylot Island, recently sold for $2.8M. http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=3079723 Last edited by glatt; 06-03-2010 at 07:54 AM. |
