06/22/02: Neverwinter Nights
I am now obsessed with Neverwinter Nights. All my free time is now spent learning to create new modules.
Reasons why this game is so great: 1.) There will be a Linux port. 2.) The game programmers actually post in the forums on Bioware's site. That is so awesome -- they don't have to do this but they do anyway. 3.) Ability to create your own games and script anything you want to happen in C. This is confusing the begeezus out of most of the non-programmers. But for those who do know a little C, it makes it that much more powerful. 4.) Ability to have a real DM in the game. This takes away some of the staleness of having a computer try to tell you a story. The DM can control everything and propel the story himself if need be. Well my wife should be home soon. She said she'd buy me the World Builder's Guide. I need this for the scripting information it has. I'm okay with the syntax, but there isn't very good documentation on what all the function calls, variables, and contants actually do. I need an API specification. There are judicious comments in the code, so I could figure it out eventually, but with the book it will be much faster. |

Yeah.. it's going to take some practice.
I've been trying to figure out how to initiate a conversation with a placeable object (i.e., a non-character). I wanted the players to be able to converse with a dying man, and the only graphic for that is a dead body. But I guess a dead body isn't considered a real person. Either that or i'm doing something wrong somewhere. |
