That is a jaw dropper. Usually bow hunters only get hurt falling out of tree stands because they have to get a good shot. That arrow must have been deflected.

When they said, "hunting for arrowheads", I didn't expect this.

So...you're saying you want to line up skull types of various strengths and test shooting flint-tipped arrows at them?

In the first pic I thought he was eating an apple. I'm like "why's he just sitting there eating an apple like nothing happened?"

That's William Tell's son (which explains why he was eating the apple).

As a bowhunter, let me say: That man is not a bowhunter. He is a bowhuntee.

I'll hazard a (semi-) educated guess that there will be very little brain damage - the tip didn't go too far through the skull. Further, the place it struck is mostly concerned with sensory processing, possibly higher level visual functions (again, edu-guessing). It would be hard to say what, if any, cognitive deficits would result. Perhaps a loss of ability to notice objects in a certain part of the visual field, or loss of ability to detect a certain kind of feature - vertical lines, symmetry, etc.
His language, spatial, motor, and abstract thought abilities all look well safe.

On second thought, the arrow must have arrived with significant force and this might have shaken the brain and caused general brain damage. Blood loss is also a risk. However, the chap looks like he never lost consciousness so he should be fine. Except for the little round hole in the back of his head where they cut the arrowhead out. You could sneak up and poke him in the brain. I guess they'll graft skin and a plate over it.

Zen, it also depends on how fast they got him to the OR and decompressed it. If the brain was minimally affected by the portion of the tip that penetrated the bigger issue is the bleeding from the vessels inside surface of the skull which will compress the brain from the inside. From the looks of things he got help pretty quick.
