Political PR and how not to do it.

UK politics is unlikely to hold much interest for Dwellars beyond these shores but this might be the exception that proves the rule. Wednesday was Budget Day here and it is probably the Parliamentary year's biggest theatrical set piece. The Chancellor of the Exchequer gives a speech outlining how much he intends to steal from the Great British Public during the course of the next financial year and then the leader of the opposition or his economic affairs spokesman attempts to shoot it down in flames. Finely honed insults and abuse, all within the confines of strict parliamentary procedure you understand, fly back and forth across the chamber of the House of Commons, then economists and accountants in TV studios do their stuff and it's over for another year. However, the Chancellor reduced tax on beer by a penny a pint (1.7 cents) and halved Bingo tax to 10%. Anxious to capitalise on this, the chairman of the Conservative party released an ad on twitter which was widely perceived as patronising and a number of spoof versions have appeared over the past few days. Who said satire was dead? By the way, for the avoidance of doubt, the first one is the genuine article LINK Just to add, I slept through most of the TV coverage but didn't miss much for all that!

Is the whole thing a dog&pony show to distract the public/media while they are all colluding in the cloak room?
