The heavens opened just after 0800 and delivered a large volume of rain in short order.
It's been chucking it down more or less constantly for the the last two or three months. The back garden slopes and is chalk just below a shallow covering of topsoil, so it should be well drained but the lawn is almost marshy and my feet nearly went from under me when I went out to attend to the bird feeders. OTOH, the stream at the bottom of the garden was pretty much bone dry until a few weeks ago. It rises in a spring at the end of the road and is now flowing quite well, the water table having risen sufficiently. Admittedly you couldn't go white water rafting on it, but it's a dramatic improvement.
