Repeal of Low-Yield Weapons Ban - End of the World Playlist
A 'sharply divided' Senate committee has voted to repeal the ban of 5 kiloton and less nuclear weapons.
Well, with our current government basically trying to strongarm the world while being unable to articulate a policy towards countries with known nuclear weapons, and now this development, I'm trying to come up with a playlist for the end of the world. Currently, I've decided on "Eve of Destruction" and REM's "End of the World".
The good news is if I wait to download them from Kazaa at the last minute, at least I won't have to worry about a nasty e-mail from the RIAA.
Now a doctor named Kubler-Ross has found that terminal patients go through five psychological stages: denial, anger, bargaining, grieving, and acceptance. I figure that if the final day comes, I'm going to need music for all five stages.
"Eve of Destruction" covers anger.
"End of the World" covers acceptance.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
BTW, I should apologize to our guests from China for the line in "Eve of Destruction". It was from a different time and I'm sure things are much better. Considering China's proximity to North Korea, you've got a lot more to worry about already.

"Eve Of Destruction"
by Barry McGuire
The eastern world it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin',
You're old enough to kill
But not for votin'.
You don't believe in war,
What's that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan river
Has bodies floatin'.
But you tell me over and over
And over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.
Don't you understand,
That I'm trying to say?
Can't you see the fear
That I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed,
There's no running away,
There'll be no one to save
With the world in a grave,
Take a look around you, boy,
It's bound to scare you, boy.
But you tell me over and over
And over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.
Yeah, my blood's so mad,
Feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here,
Just contemplatin'.
I can't twist the truth,
It knows no regulation,
Handful of Senators
Don't pass legislation.
And marches alone
Can't bring integration,
When human respect
Is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world
Is just too frustratin'.
And you tell me over and over
And over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
we're on the eve of destruction.
Think of all the hate
There is in Red China!
Then take a look around
To Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here,
For four days in space,
But when you return,
It's the same old place.
The poundin' of the drums,
The pride and disgrace,
You can bury your dead,
But don't leave a trace,
Hate your next-door-neighbor,
But don't forget to say grace.
And you tell me over and over
And over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
By REM
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength. Ladder start to clatter with fear fight down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games a government for hire and a combat site. Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped. Look at that low playing! Fine, then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and the revered in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn. Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down. Watch your heel crush, crushed. Uh oh, this means no fear cavalier. Renegade steer clear! A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
The other night I dreamt ot knives, continental drift divide. Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...
(It's time I had some time alone)?
