For me, gas is cheaper now than it was 20 years ago. My real income has risen enormously even with inflation taking its toll. $0.89 a gallon in 1980 was a much more serious impact to me than $2.45 a gallon is now.

I can remember my Dad complaining about paying $0.35 a gallon back on a road trip in the late 60's. Thirty Five cents a gallon seems cheap, but back then a new Chevy was $1700-$2200 and a middle class income was $20K a year back then.
