Jan 15, 2010: Wired Baby

This baby is wired, not from too much sugar or caffeine, literally wired.

A baby boy took part in a brain study yesterday to help psychologists understand how autism develops. Four-month-old Matai Reid was monitored by scientists at Durham University to see how he responded to different moving images on a television screen. Matai, from Durham, was fitted with a cap with sensors attached so his brain activity could be recorded.

Dr Vincent Reid, a psychologist at Durham University, said: 'We don't yet know enough about how the brains of very young babies develop and how they react to things. 'It is vital we know more so we can identify problems and developmental delays much earlier which could lead to earlier diagnosis of conditions such as autism.' 'I think it is really important that we examine babies and look at how they behave when they are younger. I think it can tell us a lot about their development. 'There is so much we need to learn about conditions like autism and just looking at how babies develop normally can help with this.'
I take it they're trying to establish baselines to compare a baby's development to, but I wonder if kids are that much alike? I hear parents talking about different kids, saying this kid did this a X months, but not that until Y months, whereas another kid was just the opposite.

Then again, some are good fried, but others are only good for stewing...
or was that chickens?
