The Infinite Monkey Cage
Oh, yes, she's here again with her radio 4 programmes.
The Infinite Monkey Cage... Which thinking about the title, I should have posted here a long time ago! I suspect this hasn't made it to the States, so I'm going to post a youtube audio clip to give you a taste of it. I love it. It's basically a science and comedy discussion radio show hosted by comedian and rationalist Robin Ince and physicist and ex-rockstar Professor Brian Cox, and with a couple of different guests each week. The guests are usually a mix of comedians, scientists, commentators and people off've the telly. each week they discuss scientific stuff. It does range a bit :p It's basically a delightful sciencey geekfest. This is the opening of the very first one, from about three years ago. It's possibly not the best to showcase it, because they are still finding their feet, but I think it's a really interesting discussion of the relationship between science and comedy. It starts out very introductory and get to know you chit chat, but then evolves (if you'll pardon the pun) at around 6 minutes in into an interesting discussion on evolution and paleontology, attitudes towards the scientific method, and the monetary value of scientific research, continuing in part 2: And from a later series, a special on science fiction and the relationship between science and art. Some lovely science jokes at the start. Possibly worth listening to this one first... Second part has a lovely intro to string theory
