The NEW Bambi thread
I can't remember where I put my other deer killing thread so I made a new one.
Today was the next to last day of Rifle (buck only) season. I made it to my tree stand about half an hour before sunset and saw three Does. ![]() I spoke with my mentor who said he hasn't seen a Buck in over a week. His brother shot a 4 pointer then. They go nocturnal when the hunting pressure builds. I don't think I'll have a chance to hunt tomorrow (seems hardly worth it, considering almost no one has seen any bucks lately) Though, at my friend's tree stand here in town (he's got 10 acres with a nearby swamp and creek) I can bowhunt, and being in the village there is no real hunting pressure on them. Case in point: Last week I loosed an arrow at a deer and he ducked under it, it probably barely creased him. He jumped up, spun around, looked left and right and left and right, walked over to the arrow, smelled it, and then went back to eating. I couldn't reach my quiver without scaring him off. So there is this one Buck who comes to the field just at dark, the hunting ends at sundown, technically. Though with the snow and moon it is pretty damn bright. Whatever. I may try tomorrow night. Then, on Monday late bow season and muzzle loading season (either sex - but basically it means Does, since spike horns and yearlings are left to grow another year) begins for a week or so. I haven't got a muzzle loader but my mentor says he may be able to scrounge one up for me. That would be cool. As things stand, I'm looking at vegetarianism in my future...
