I know we need another car question thread, so here it is.
I want a Honda Element. I'm not asking what car I should buy, etc., etc. I'm asking about how I know I'm getting the best deal. They're not manufactured anymore, so I will be getting a used one of course. They ran from 2003 to 2012 (or thereabouts). There were some non-cosmetic changes made to the build of the car around 2007, some say the newer ones are better for it... I don't really know. I do know I like this model. It's roomy, well thought of, and it suits my lifestyle--utilitarian. Here are the things I am looking for: The high end trim model (EX I think) AWD (they made a 2WD version, not really interested) I'd prefer a 5-speed manual to the automatic transmission, but the right car in other aspects could change my mind. Low(er) miles is better. ... that's about it. Here are some questions I have: How much mileage is enough to be concerned about? Having it checked out by my own local mechanic is possible, maybe, depending on when/where I purchase it. How valuable is this? I prefer to purchase from an individual rather than a dealer, but I'm flexible. My local search radius includes Vancouver BC. I've just seen a very attractive posting on Craigslist for a vehicle in BC. I spent a little time reading what it takes to "import" a vehicle from Canada... Wow. Does anyone here have any insight to lend on this point? It seems like an ordeal. There will certainly be more questions and answers, but this is a good start. Thanks in advance for your help!
