The Lives of Others
I finally watched this last night. It was brilliantly done. I suppose in Germany it could be seen as a reunification film, showing how the system could corrode fundamental decency and was an easy tool for abuse but individuals could rise above it at a cost. My generation grew up with tales of East Germany and yet seems pretty cool with the growing surveillance state. Humans, while inhabiting changing societies, still have weakness of character and basic needs to fill.
