May 16th, 2016: McMurray Pets

You’ve certainly heard about the hellacious fires at Fort McMurray in Canada.

You may have heard about Lee Ellis who got back to town after the evacuation had started and the road was jammed so he
figured he’d wait till the end before leaving. Talking to evacuees on the phone, people begged him to take care of their pets
giving him the passcodes to their homes, and telling him where the food was stored. He was making about twenty stops a day
on his bike, after four days, using his car. That’s when the authorities grabbed him and escorted him to the evacuation point.

There are several stories about the RCMPs rounding up pets like Marshall the pig and getting them fed and sheltered.

A lot of people were able to take their pets with them, but once safely out of the danger area where do you go, especially if one
of the burnt houses is yours. Probably many families were forced to split up. scattering to friends or relatives.
One thing is for sure, a lot of them wanted to fly.

Anyone who has flown with a pet, or even knows someone who did, has heard horror stories.

Enter (drumroll) Canadian North and WestJet airlines.
"Due to the unusual circumstances we were able to bend the rules to accommodate these animals,"

I’m guessing these two airlines have earned some loyal fans.
