Funny you would say that. When our friends come over from the UK they can't believe how long we drive to do things for a day. 2 or 3 hours one way for a rugby match, and they are like "WTF? We staying over night?". "Ummm no."

It does tend to be the older generation - my parents wouldn't drive to & from Leicester in one day (3 hour round trip) but HM came from Wales, to Leicester and back to London after working a 12 hour day... and thanks to floods that ended up as an 8 hour drive

But yes, our dinky little island spoils us with its close-packed riches
