				Win XP HE

I upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition today. Aside from an inordinately LONG time installing (over an hour), it went smoothly. It found all my devices without a problem and seems to have transferred all my software and settings too. Except for one thing...my Netscape bookmarks file. It's gone! Anyone know where it might be and how I might import it or restore it? I'd hate to have lost almost 50 bookmarks, some of which are actually important! Brian

Have you poked around under Program Files to see if there's a Netscape folder in there somewhere?

Windows ate it, it likes doing that kind of stuff. It forgets every once in a while that it's your computer not Bill Gates'.

Great site, I'll keep it in my NEW bookmark file. It didn't help me with my problem, but it loks like it has all kinds of interesting info in there. I'm resigned to having lost my bookmark file AGAIN. I searched all over without success...looks like when I installed XP it converted my bookmarks from IE (which I never use) to Netscape and overwrote my existing file. :-( I hate it when that happens! Brian now I have to go back through the cool site of the day and IOTD archives to find all the pictures and sites I had marked.

That's pretty shitty. Microsoft doesn't even own Netscape. They have no moral right to overwrite its configuration files.

I also added Mandrake Linux 9.0 to the machne, making it a dual boot. Now what? I know I'm not fond of the IRC client it comes with and I need a better one that will allow auto-joining and auto command execution (mIRC works well, but NOT under Linux) Mozilla seems to be intuitive, but then I've been a Netscape user for many years. XSane I haven't tried yet. Next up, another memory stick (256Mb, PC133 SDRAM in case someone has an old one laying around) and another HD (this one shrank alarmingly when I added the new partition). But not until July, when my car is paid off (one more to go! WOOHOO!) and Dagney has some kind of sparkly rock on her finger. THEN I can justify more hardware. Until then, can anyone suggest a download site for Linux applications? Brian

Freshmeat.net and sourceforge.net are always a good bet for software.

XChat is the IRC client I use. I like it's ability to connect to different servers on different tabs.

Tucows' Linux section might also be a good starting point. freshmeat and sourceforge tend to be more developer-oriented.
