I had a massive, painful ganglion on my left wrist when I was in 7th-8th grade--even had a doctor put me on arthritis drugs for it for awhile, but they never did a bit of good. Finally someone made the connection for me that it was from playing the viola. I made a concerted* effort to relax my arm while playing, and it went away.

*get it?!
