the fruit fly solution is:

half fill a bowl with wine or balsamic vinegar

cover with plastic wrap

punch holes in the wrap with a fork

set bowl where fruit flies fly

they go in but can't get out.

Or you can just poor some wine ( I've heard beer works also) in a mason jar lid.
Lay it out where they typically congregate.
They will fly into it and die.
