Seeing beautiful bridges like that one depresses me.

Because I live in the US, where we don't build beautiful things.

We build cheap things.

I think that you're being a bit harsh on yourselves there, Grav.

The Verrazano–Narrows and Golden Gate Bridges are spectacular engineering achievements.

I don't know whether I shall ever have the good fortune to visit the US again, but I have an ambition to drive across/through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

Well, I can dream.

I did it some time ago...it's wild. You're just driving along, enjoy the scenery...but a small part of you is tripping out, worried that the tunnel and/or bridge is going to go to hell.

I've done that. It was pretty cool, although it probably would have been more cool in daylight.
