I bought our wii as a package, with wii fit, wii sport and controllers.
Im still on the fence about it though, I like it, the kids prefer xbox at this stage. 4yr old isnt up to movement and button work, whereas he doesnt have any problems with xbox, 6yr old still prefers the xbox games at this stage. |

We've got Wi and Wii fit. It is a lot of fun for short periods of time and then everyone gets bored and it doesn't come out for a couple months again. If you do get the Wii fit also buy Jillian's (The biggest loser) Workout game. It's fun just to watch people do it.

We're not gamers.
I disagree that better graphics make better games. I rate playability as the only item that counts, so I question that "decent games" and "quality games" means the same thing to you as it does to me. . . . Thank you for your input.

Look at the adoption of the Nintendo DS over the PSP. The PSP has far better graphics, but the Nintendo DS has far greater adoption numbers. I've got both, but it's sad how few good games are coming out for the PSP.

I never said better graphics alone make better games. I'm going by industry reviews of games per console in saying that "decent games" and "quality games" are lacking for the Wii. No good graphics don't always equal good games. I still play my old Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 because of something called "replay value" in some of the games for those systems. Those two systems are way behind the current curve of game graphics. My point is that the motion controls that the Wii is most famous for only carry it so far because of its inherent limitations. The percentage of poorly rated games per console is heavily tilted towards the Wii as well. Even my non "gamer" friends who own the system were all excited and giddy about it for starters, [stereotypical high-pitched girl voice]OMG Wii tennis is soo fun!, then after a few months it just sits or is put away and forgotten about. All in all it's just not worth the $ when you look at other options. It's not entirely about the graphics since the long term playing experience is what matters most, and the Wii lacks there as well. From a list of the top selling games per platform and their MetaCritic.com scores in an effort to find out which console has the best quality games: "The results are as follows Wii - Average 75.55% PS3 - Average 81.44% Xbox 360 - Average 87.375% But that is only the rating of the top 10 sellers which really is not a fair rating. What really is required is a comparison over the consoles entire catalogue. Wii: +80% = 6 titles to choose from +90% = 2 titles to choose from PS3 +80% = 18 titles to choose from +90% = 1 title to choose from X360 +80% = 58 titles to choose from +90% = 7 titles to choose from" But hey if you find it fun go for it and be careful not to accidentally chuck your controller into the tv. Its your money, you can waste it however you want ![]()

I don't think the Wii is meant to appeal to gamers. I think it's meant to appeal to families. Everyone knows that the graphics are lame. Wii isn't about the graphics.
We just got Wii fit a week ago and are having a lot of fun with that. It gets you off the couch. |

Time out both of you. If you keep it up you'll get no juice at lunch.
anyway, we are not a family of gamers, either. I like the old school graphics. We have PS2 and Wii and maybe 10 games between the two. The Wii is fun if you have time to play it. The tennis game was amusing until LL figured out he could totally screw me by barely moving his controller thus preventing me from ever having the chance to actually hit the ball. Same with baseball. that family laughed for quite awhile at the Wii fit stuff but then it lost it's novelty. In all honesty I probably would veto Mrs L's purchase if I had to do it again. What I don't like is the Wiimotes aren't set up to just respond exactly with your motions. Example: In the Star Wars game you use a Wiimote to fight with your lightsaber. Seems pretty straightforward, right? You're using a Wiimote in place of a lightsaber so your actions should match what you seen on the screen. Unfortunately you have to learn a complex set of twitches, turns, and button pushing combinations to actually do anything. It is just like having a normal controller, but less intuitive. All that being said, the bowling, baseball, tennis, golf, and Wii Fit functions can be a lot of fun.

We got our Wii fit. I think it's a good idea, and well implemented.
This goes back to the unique origins of Nintendo's "NES" concept. At a time when "video games" were considered a fad that was on its way out, Nintendo marketing had to find a way to move their units. So instead of calling it a "video game" they called it "Nintendo ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM" or NES. Something that is fun for the whole family. And that concept remains solid today with the Wii. We have made our little Miis, and my 2yo daughter asks to see "the family game" on TV.
