Indonesia is actually #1 when it comes to sheer number of muslims.

UT i quote articles i agree with or i think have a logical point. Just becase there is another one by the same person does not invalidate the other one. *sighs*

Gee UT, so far i haven't see you mention how anyone has been talking appeasement, apart from yourself, or how it fints into any existing or proposed strategy or defence strategy by any nation.

I think I've seen a few folks - like Griff, please excuse the singling out sir - basically hinting towards the blowback theory. And I disagree with it, that's part of my point. I disagree with it so hard that when Fisk is invoked I have to point out that he's the main advocate of it. To me, the guy's a moron, and needs to be ignored.

Doesn't mean he can't occasionally have a point.

Blowback to a a degree i agree with, but it does not by proxy advocate appeasement, there is no link.

I thought India was #1 in number of Muslims...with Indonesia as #2? 12% of India's 1.03 Billion are Muslim...which is a whole hell of a lot.

And by blowback, is everyone referring to the situation implied by George Tenet?

Meaningless detail, but the island of Bali is 95% Hindu within the total Indonesian Muslim majority, religious remnants of a deposed ruler, his artists and courtesans.

Dude, I haven't hinted shit. I've said it. When our government fucks people, be they Iranians or El Salvadorans oops neither of those national traumas could have happened after all Carter just got the peace prize there will be unintended consequences. Sometimes we taste the fruit of our governments labors, sometimes the poor bugger on the third world street eats it. As far as being singled out, de nada, we're all just trying to figure out the mess we're in and how or if we can extract ourselves from it.

Hermit, when I talk about Blowback, I'm usually referring to the way Chalmers Johnson laid it out in the book by the same name. The word itself was/is CIA insider speak for unanticipated outcomes of our military/diplomatic/intelligence activities. So Tenet uses it the same way.

And now, you know that pain -- and we really wish you didn't. We mourn also.

But we don't always get what we wish for, especially not in a war. I don't know if the stimulus of one tanker with a big leak punched in it will do the job for getting the French in, but I really rather hope so. Contrary to some folk's rather unschooled opinion, the French can fight.
