Hold up, Scott. Why do you think this to be the case? Especially since the Dems had complete control of everything (the executive and legislative) for 32 years between 1903 and 2002 (not to mention all the years of having Congress) while the GOP had complete control for 23 (while only having serious Congressional control for the past 7 years).

Or, are you simply referring to the bare term "republic," which is what the US is, as opposed to a "democracy."
