Novel way to control health costs

33-year-old Rowan Trezise planned to move to New Zealand with her husband, but was told she was too fat. The British woman along with her husband tried to get into the country for residence, but were told they were too fat and could be a burden on their health care system.

She's fatter than you realise - she's Rowan Treesize!

Seriously, I think most countries don't allow immigration for people with health problems. Serious obesity is a new one as far as I know though.

Ever seen a Maori woman? They tend to run on the large side. And quite a few Euro-Kiwis are of Scottish descent and there's some size in that gene pool too.
I guess the sign reads "No NEW fat chicks".

Thumbs down

I'm thinking if that country is going to deny residency on medical grounds, in this case clinical obesity, why are they not testing all applicants for such costly health care problems such as tumors or cancers which are undiagnosed as yet by the applicants? When those bad boys turn malignant an obese persons' drain on health care costs is far less. High blood pressure prescriptions are tiny, in terms of time and cost, compared to oncology treatments. Seems unfair.

Any idea what the number one cause of death is among people in Australia and NZ (and I suspect most other western nations) is? That's right, heart disease. Any idea what one of the biggest contributors to heart disease is? Right again. Being overweight and living a sedentry lifestyle.

Hospitals spend far more money on people with heart disease than anything else. That's why countries don't want extra people who are fat. We've got enough of our own already.

Incidentally, you can't adopt a child if you're considered obese either.

well, on the surface of it, that is how it might seem, but no, that's not the reason.

It's about giving the child the best quality of life, and if their parent/s might drop dead from a heart attack, well, that wouldn't be very good. Also, they're taking into consideration the parents ability to play with the child in a meaningful way.

i think hollering "Fetch me another drumstick" 10 or 15 times a day can be very meaningful.

That's bullshit. It's incredibly hard to immigrate to the US and the health requirements are one of the hardest things to get through.

Of course if you're talking illegals, that's a whole different kettle of fish, but don't go lumping us all together. We jumped through a ridiculous number of hoops to be granted residency, and yet we draw nothing from govt resources and pay our way with taxes etc, without receiving the right to vote.

Your comment comes across as unsubstantiated rightwing kneejerk rhetoric.

They were talking about a study on the radio the other day that linked certain cancers with obesity. I'm just sayin'...
