I'd say that largely depends on whether they expect you to have it surgically implanted in your hand and answer your email non-stop 24 hours a day.
If not then they look like nifty gadgets.... |

So far, there is no indication that they expect that of me. I am slightly concerned that there might be a slippery slope, but I don't see any signs of one.
It's actually kind of funny. My old boss insisted that I get a pager. She was always in a panic. After she left, I dutifully gave my new boss the pager number. The new boss has never paged me in 8 years. But I carry it anyway so family and friends can reach me. My work pays for it, so I never bothered to cancel the service. The blackberry (if it ends up being the same as the one my boss got) looks pretty neat. It's basically a cell phone that also is connected to my work e-mail account. It's just slightly larger than my current pager. |
