Tony Blair To Step Down

Tony Blair says he'll step down within the year. What say all of our British members?

Who do you see filling the void? What can you expect? (I know a lot of this will be pure conjecture but give it a whirl)

No conjecture required.

For those former-colonsists not up to scratch on this long-running story.....

Once upon a time there were two up and coming young politicians within the British labour party. They had similar ideas about reforming the party, and were great buddies. They prospered within the party equally, and were both poised for ministeral posts when Labour, under John Smith, won the next election. But it was not be..... poor John died unexpectedly, and the partywas thrown into chaos. Who would lead now? Tony or Gordon? (for our two heros are none other than those two). Being good policticions, Tony and Gordon soon struck a deal.... Gordon would back out of the leadership contest, leaving Tony to become Leader and eventually PM. Then, under the terms of the deal, Tony would bow out during the second term, leaving Gordon as leader and PM...

History followed its due course, Tony became PM (one of the most succesful labour PM's ever) and Gordon became Chancellor (probally the most successful chancellor of any party, ever).....

But then...... the first term came and went. The second term arrived, and Gordon looked expectant...... and the third term arrived and Gordon looked daggers....

Tony, in an effort to placate Gordon, said 'I won't stand for another term - this will be my last'. Gordon was not placated. and so the story rolls on to this last weeks events....

Gordon's friends try to harass Tony into giving a date for the handover, but it misfires and they all resign. Tony & Gordon have serious words (they are no longer good buddies) and Tony finally says 'ok, I'll go within the next year'.

But, Gordon is still not happy..... watch this space.

So what is the opinion of his party rebellion? Did they show him the door? Or, as so often happens with leaders in power for approaching 10 years and therefore corrupted by power; will Tony have to be 'killed by his own sword'?

Yippee! I'll be glad to see the back of him, the grinning, egomaniacal, vain, halfwit (is it just me or is he looking more and more like Jack Nicholson's, The Joker?).

I don't think we've seen the last of him yet. He has his eyes set on becoming President of Europe. Now THAT is scary!

Blair and Bush - Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, except Alice's friends had more intelligence.

As for Gordon 'is a moron' Brown, will someone please wipe that smug smile off his face. He has all the charisma of a turd in a dinner jacket.

I know I should be saying something more constructive and intelligent but after ten years of Tony...

Let's hope one day both our countries get leaders who actually love their country and people without shoving it down the rest of the world's throat.

Religion and politics, eh, the twin evils of humanity.

I won't be sad to see Tony Blair go, but it won't be a day of celebration for me the way it was when Margaret Thatcher was finally shown the door.

I'm interested to see what happens next. I'd like to see Gordon Brown take the reins - whoever is our next leader will have to make a lot of changes, which means more money wasted. At least Mr Brown has experience of holding the purse strings and is used to dealing at the highest level.

I shudder to think that a protest vote at the next general election could give us David "call me Dave" Cameron as a PM.

I don't mind my PMs dour and uncharismatic. I don't want to invite them round for tea, I want a safe pair of hands!

I will be pleased to see him go. He has been an enabler for two Presidents.

I agree with you sundaegirl, charisma is no qualification for being PM but lets not forget it was Gordon who held up the UK's purse, emptied out our gold reserves and sold them to the lowest bidder. And he's been screwing the public ever since trying to get the money back. It's also why our pensions are well and truly f**ked!

As for David 'Damian' Cameron, he's just the evil, bastard offspring of Tony Blair, another in a long line of MP's trying to please all the people all of the time. An impossibility as the current state of Britain now shows.

The scariest thing of all is that there is no one to take their places. The LIb-Dems are just fence sitters of the worst kind, and drunk ones at that.

The BNP are psychotic, racist scum but appear to be getting into their stride because of the mad mullahs and militant muslims. Both of which are a cause for great concern but Labour seem more concerned with appeasing.

What or who the answer is, I've no idea!

IMO Tony always has had President of Europe in his sights - I can only see that as being behind his desire to support the USA in Afghanistan and then Iraq - put him on the world leader platform and showed him as being the one closest to the world's leading (only?) superpower. Just the credentials needed at the time.

Shame it's all gone a bit pear-shaped now - no wonder he is clinging on to PM-ship for dear life!

And Gordon - save me please from someone who thinks the likes of complex solutions such as Tax Credits and PFIs are the way to steer our country. In real terms he's waited too long and is past his sell-by date. If not so much within the Labour Party, then very much so outside it (i.e with the general electorate). And achieving self-designation as King of Stealth Taxes says it all.

My views on Tony are mixed. I disagree with some (read: many) of his policies, think during his leadership we have been sapped what little pride we had left in our country and have falllen further into post-imperial malaise.

However...

I honestly believe he has done the best job he could given the situation. I'm sure he wants the best for the country, and I respect him for trying to make the most of a bad situation. I would much rather a Labour government with Tony Blair be in power than a Conservative government with... well, anyone in power.

I DO think it's probably time for him to leave, just on a sympathetic level - He looks -rough- compared to when he was voted in. Give the man a break! But at the same time... I have no faith or remote desire in any other political party in the UK. My next vote will be a vote designed to keep the BNP, England First etc OUT, not trying to vote anyone IN.

Which is sad.

Don't feel sad for Tony, or any other MP, Meiso. They've voted themselves enough salary increases plus the best pension deal you'll ever feast your eyes upon. All at our expense.

Tony has been nothing but spin since the day he moved in. Image has been everything - no one being allowed to question his regime's motives or failings.

We have too short memories. Sit yourself down and start counting the atrocities (for that's what they are)- Kelly, Iraq, Pensions, Immigration, WMD, Human Rights Act, European Constitution, European UK Rebate, Drugs, ID Cards, Crime, Asylum Seekers, Stamp Duty, Inheritance tax, CouncilTax, Invalidity Benefits, Gambling Casinos, Peerages - and I'm not even trying to think hard for examples yet.

Tony will continue to hang on so long as he needs to finance that £4million mortgage.

Will Cameron and his mob do any better? They won't have to try that hard to succeed.

ay, thats' true, footy. In fact, the last company I worked for was older than your Nation.

But Tony is so far up Georges' ass I really do think he'd sell us into slavery to the US.
