Yeah...that'sa bit of a historical myth I'm afraid. There were 'redcoats'. But there were also green coats. The 95th Rifles, for example wore green and several battalions wore ranger style uniforms.

Let's not quibble about colors, the main point being differences in what was considered "cricket" on the battlefield. Anyway, I learned history in the US so I can pretty much assume that 90% of what I was taught was patent fabrication while the other 10% was merely erroneous.

Although they did have some experience in less standard fighting tactics, that experience had been a generation earlier. Pretty much standard experience for the british army during this period was recruitment during conflict and near total disbandment during peace time. Consequently, when a new conflict arose, they had to learn to fight as an army all over again. Every time.
