Here's some pics of "Dopey", a fledgling blue jay that couldn't make it back to his nest. The mother feeds him during the day and we take him in at night due to the cold weather & cats in the area. My oldest daughter found him in the front yard.

It's nature in action in the turtle tank. Turt has reached the size where he can hunt the minnows down, and so he reduced the tank population by half.

In return though, the latest batches of minnow fry got too large for the big fish to eat, and so young ones are repopulating the tank.

I watched Turt fishing last night, at his perceived dusk; he hangs on to something solid and waits for fish to swim close to his motion-sensing beak.

Frog hunting definitely gets more interesting when you feel that first snake go between your legs, or that turtle go across your foot/feet chasing something.

In the dark.

Sarge that's just such a gorgeous story.

Jays in this country are part of the crow family and some can be tamed.
I wonder if yours will remember you?

If I had a button that would kill every blue jay alive today, and resurrect all the blue jays that ever lived, just so they could be made dead again...I would jump up and down on that button. All day.

They're beautiful birds, but, goddamn, they're annoying.

I've been awake for thirty minutes, it was a jay that woke me, and my head is already fucking splitting from the racket.

Fuck blue jays. To death.
