Well I finally saw Shadow! *waves at black kittehs*
Gaines has a white spot on his chest. He was dropped off by someone years ago, but I've always thought he was a Russian Blue. Then I'd read so many times that many people think that, but their cat really isn't a Russian Blue. Well, I found out he has all the characteristics: the double coat (well, it's cold in Russia!), the silvery sheen, the deep "bottle green" eyes (no other eye color, it's dark bright green or its not an RB) a barely noticeable tail stripe and, the kicker for me, the mauve footpads. Yep, that's Gaines. The white spot would disqualify him in show arenas, but it's not uncommon. My little soviet cat, how I love his big meow mouth. Yet I'll never know how he made his way to me the winter it was 20 degrees below zero for an extended period of time. I suspect the housekeeper to the mansion (I lived in a cool old outbuilding that was converted to an apartment): she knew I was a big sucker for cats though at the time I already had two. Gaines is the last of my 4 Mohicans. |

Turbo was also born a 'wannabe tuxedo kitty that didn't quite make it" .
He also had several errant white hairs.

I don't want LL's offspring to feel as though she's alone.

Big V - I loved caterpillars when I was a little girl. I haven't seen one in ages.

Black cats, black cats, love cats, black cats...
Apparently there is a problem with black cats being adopted in this country. Because people associate them with witches and evil. Bollocks. It's just fashion. (which is just as crazy) People now love gingers and mackerels. My ex-husband wanted to get kittens, but the ones we'd heard of wouldn't be available even to view for three weeks, let alone ready to adopt. I took a call from a local rescue centre, and the lady said that they had two boys, 20 weeks old. Older than J wanted. But everyone wanted the black kitten and no-one wanted his black and white brother (they try to rehome siblings together) At that time black & whites were the problem cats. I persuaded him that we should go and see them. At the very least it was seeing little cats. He adored the black kit that became our Raphael, because he was immediately loving, friendly - and super-cute. The kit to be called Gabriel was shy, skittish and had a sombre face with a Roman nose. Then I told him that no-one wanted the black & white kitten. How can any cat lover resist an unloved cat? We'd already been approved for adoption and took them home that day. Gabes became "mine". I think I cried more about our separation than I did about my divorce.

I do believe that black cats are a bit more social than is normal. That is why when Beau (my mackeral tabby that I loved for 13 years) died, I decided to adopt a little black kitty. Turbo did not disappoint. He is so friendly that he greets everyone who visits us.
