HB UT, here's something to think about as you're getting older ...

We have the theory of gravity to explain the relationships between large things like planets and galaxies in the universe. We have the theories of electromagnetism (effects attraction), the strong force (holds atoms together), and the weak force (accounts for radioactive decay), which when applied together explain the relationships between small things like atoms, electrons-neutrons-protons, and quarks. We also have string theory, vibrating or wiggling strands of energy as the basic components of all things matter and energy, that provides for multiple universes and is supposed to be a "unifying theory" or "theory of everything"; but, is it really? That theory addresses only the science, not the science and philosophy of everything. Mankind does not live by science alone. There's further need for a theory that unifies science and philosophy, a theory of one which in layman's terms might be called a god theory. The science would be proven through experimentation and the philosophy narrowed down through the process of elimination to one inescapable brilliant deduction. So, by taking the established scientific theories to their culmination in string theory and asking ourselves what kind of god would account for all of creation being made up of wiggling strings, the logical conclusion is that god is a cat [cats ARE fickle]. The Egyptians were right!

Happy 176th Birthday Mark Twain!

Wit and Humor--if any difference it is in duration--lightning and electric light. Same material, apparently; but one is vivid, brief, and can do damage--the other fools along and enjoys the elaboration.

--Mark Twain's Notebook

This nation is like all the others that have been spewed upon the earth--ready to shout for any cause that will tickle its vanity or fill its pocket. What a hell of a heaven it will be when they get all these hypocrites assembled there!

--Letter to J. H. Twichell, 1/29/1901

It is our nature to conform; it is a force which not many can successfully resist. What is its seat? The inborn requirement of self-approval.

--"Corn Pone Opinions"

Once I talked to the inmates of an insane asylum in Hartford. I have talked to idiots a thousand times, but only once to the insane...

--quoted in Isabel Lyon's Journal, 2/15/1906
