I have two blockbusters within 5 miles and a Hollywood Video that looks on the verge of closing (although I do like their game section), and ... I believe our supermarkets got out of the video rental business. They needed the space for the expanded tampon aisle. And some natural/organic foods.

I don't remember the last time I saw a mom and pop ... oh wait. There's a couple across the line into philly. They do that agressively non-conglomerate thing there.

(One place sycamore told me about was pretty cool. You call and order your pizza, and tell them what movie you want from the video place next door and they bring both to your house.)

West Coast Video has been resurrected and exists in Royersford. They had a better rental policy than Blockbluster until the no-late-fees thing.

They also have two-for-one on the older tapes.

I love Netflix - BUT! In the last three months, I've had issues. The wrong DVD in the right sleeve - twice. The DVD being smashed into a million pieces. And a few so scratched that they were unplayable. Other than that, I love Netflix. They have a much bigger selection than Blockbuster, too.

I joined Blockbuster Online when they first started up, and was really happy with it at first. They had a lot of selections and they were all available right away. The shipping is pretty fast and the price was way reasonable. But as more people have begun to join, the availability has just gone WAY downhill. Movies that are in demand right now (someone earlier mentioned Kill Bill; I've had Vol. 2 in my queue for quite some time now and its been continuously unavailable) are grossly understocked. Also, when I rented Gangs of New York, the DVD was in 2 pieces and, of course, unwatchable. I don't have major problems or anything, but I have been thinking about switching to Netflix and paying the few extra bucks a month.
We watch a lot of movies, only about half of which are rented. The other half I buy from like half.com or this pawn shop in town where they have DVDs for $4 each. You can't beat that!
I'm so glad this subject was made into a thread; I've been wondering what people thought of Netflix...
