If they truly find them to be more comfortable/convenient/whatever, then great.
But I find that most guys I see wearing kilts are just desperate for attention. They walk around with this aggressive look like, "Please, go ahead and call it a skirt because I'd like to have an excuse to punch you." |

I don;t think of it as a skirt myself. I actually find tartan pretty cool. And there is a lot to be said for easy access that's for sure. The outfit has to be complete to make it look good though. No tennis shoes or boots, please!

Kilts are dangerous in the wrong hands. This fad has started to spread into non-Scottish weddings, much to my horror when I was a freelance photographer. Please, don't do the kilt thing for you and your groomsmen, because it all goes to hell when the flash goes off and no one notices until it's too late. (NSFW -- this one almost accidentally went to print!) This groom's dangler, along with his all his groomsmens', ended up unexpectedly gracing and ruining more than a dozen of the photographs I shot in which he posed with his grandmother, new mother-in-law, the bride, etc. The guys knelt down for every shot with kids and groups, so unexpected nutsacks made it into hundreds of pictures that night. I can't imagine the surprises the family and guests had when they offloaded all the images from their cameras once they got home.
Please, leave kilts for the RenFair where they belong. |

Only with the kilt, "commando" is pronounced "regimental." Underwear is not authorized as part of the uniform with the kilt. (The faceless gentleman above could stand to use a longer shirt -- itchy there!) With eight yards of fairly stout woolen fabric around your middle, it's also not very necessary. Kilts are warm even in some of the rawest weather. Well, short of a blizzard anyway.
However, Highland dancers and Highland Games athletes... they cover up. Desperate for attention? That depends. When you're playing the pipes, you get attention whether you're desperate or not! I've found myself from time to time looking my charmingest with some young lady I don't know from Eve on my arm, all smiles for the camera. It seems the kilt turns some of the womenfolk on -- quite enough to keep a (heterosexual) gentleman as busy as he should be. And the homosexual gentlemen like 'em too, for the exact same reason.

A lot of people that wear kilts do want attention, but I'd say not most. I easily know in the range of 200-300 people that wear them on a regular basis simply because they are comfortable.
Also, regarding the accidental flashing thing. If you let the fabric drape properly, you'll easily cover yourself even if you're on one knee. That's part of the reason for sporans. They add weight to the front of the kilt and thus push the fabric down over your danglies. Utilikilts are designed with a V shape of snaps along the front, which I find keeps me decent unless I do something stupid. Not to mention the optional modesty hook/loops.

I will have you guys know that I was doing very well on my diet until I saw the contents of page 1 of this thread.
It was a really healthy diet and now... Strangely I crave both meat and two veg and the last turkey in the shop. I was quite happy with beans and rice, but now... you posted despite knowing I like to suck sometimes? Send me your sandwich Cic - my appetite has been stirred ![]()

I have to admit being a little upset at Ducknuts for posting that pic here. Kind of ruined my thread for me. But, hey--people can do what they want, and will.
Like wear kilts. Traditional or non. Regimental or not.
