Taxing by the mile sounds extremely socialist.
Everyone knows poor people don't get around that much.

Which is playing politics with the problem. The problem was stated:

Heavier vehicles that do more damage pay more in gasoline. Engines for 80,000 pound vehicles in passenger cars pay for their stupidity - ie customers of every new model GM Cadillac and the stupid Camaro. Not only does it pay for the roads. It punishes those who buy crap vehicles and put Americans out of work. Gasoline prices have long been too low anyway. Another problem solved. |
