I have the same one that fargon had. I took a broken one apart to see what made it tick and it sounds just like yours, only larger. It does a fair job of cooling sodas and other drinks but milk doesn't stay fresh for more than 48 hours. Cheese and cold cuts fare better but need to be eaten within a week.

It should do a decent job of cooling a can but it will take a while, especially if the can is warm, precooling works best.

Meanwhile a recent innovation from Intel. A peitier junction was successfully applied to a semiconductor. It does not work efficiently on the entire chip. But by identifying selected hot spots, the junction is located below that hot spot for selective cooling.

Intel created a hot spot of 1300 watts per square cm, and cooled it with a mircrosized junction constructed from bismuth, tellurium, antimony, and selenium. Well at least some companies are trying to maintain the American standard of living.
