You can "know" to an extent who someone is in chat. When I frequented, if I stealthed in (trying to hide from a previously mentioned [i think in that OTHER thread] creepy stalky slimy chatter) I know someone had access to IP addys, because they told me they did, knew it was me. Of course, they could've been fibbin' but I don't think so. I didn't witness the backstabbing there--we talked about other things like food and music. There are (or used to be, don't know if it's changed) private tabs so if anyone wanted to talk about someone else they could have just opened up private and let whoever in they wanted. UNLESS, they are doing things out in the open to set up a joke or something.

I know Redux from a site I used to post on years ago, and he's still the same person he was then, so unless this "plot" was cooked up before Merc even appeared here, I don't see how the whole 'plant' thing can be true.

On the other hand, I do believe it might be true that some dwellars have somehow accessed Redux's password and have been logging in for him.

A plant in this context is simply someone who is working with or for others without disclosing it. How long that person has been known to anyone doesn't negate the possibility.

The IP addresses of anyone else using Redux's account would show up on the Admin board as being different from Redux's unless they are collocated; or, they went through the trouble of networking computers (voluntarily or by hacking).

While the assurances of anonymous posters never carry the same weight as those who are better known, I wouldn't call someone a plant just because they take chlorophyll tablets to reduce odor when they pass gas.

Surprised.

In that context, there are plenty of them here, unless you mean only thru one acct in which case I've no idea.

I don't think they are checking that info all the time. That seems way too laborious.
However, if he travels and uses a different computer wouldn't that result in a different IP address?
Does using the same computer from different locations produce a unique IP address?

Who are the small mindED folks of which you speak, sock puppet?

Certainly not MOI, who stood up for your fake ass, many times?

Crap, I had no idea the Cellar was running out of liars. Can we get them in bulk at Costco?

Shawnee....For the record, the small minded folks of which I spoke were Flint and Classicman (who jumped right on it). There was no intended reference to you, Sundae, Brianna.

I would add to the small minded people....LumberJim and Monster for their follow-up "contributions"...was it good for you?

If it takes threads like this to provide simple pleasures for simple minds, I am happy to oblige.

added:
Jim...glad to see your follow through on trying to bring mature and civil discourse to the community.

I never know when Flint is joking. He's a wily one. As to the other one, he's just a numnut. It was like he was jumping on the already moving Merry-go-round in a drunken euphoric fit, wasn't it? WEEEEEEEEEE!!!1!

What?

I never said mature or civil minded. My main complaint was that every topic in those forums quickly devolved into the same partisan pissing match. I don't know how to say it any clearer than that. If any of you took this thread at all seriously, then you're sense of humor is faulty. Seriously faulty.

My list of potential redux sock puppets was me NOT registering one and posting with it. That in an effort to let this friction subside.

I thought that too Dana, until I read SG's post. She's not usually one to cause trouble.
