Not the ones from Jersey.

Maybe out where you live. Cornwells Heights has 1900 spaces, almost all of them free. And the lot is generally only half-full.

Incidentally, tw, I believe two of the top 10 open lots are near you...Whitford and Thorndale.

When? The GW (run by PANYNJ) is still $6, as it was when I used it in '99. The Verrazano (run by MTA) is now $8 (used to be $7). And the Throgs Neck (also run by MTA) is now $4 (used to be $3).

For example, Giacomo and Roberts would have built a large regional station in Upper Gwyendd and Route 202. Many from the region park in this 'isolated from all residential areas' mass station. Then express right into Philly. Convenient. Faster than the Schuykill. And not done when those without foresight took over Septa.
The plan as I understand it now is to extend the Route 100 light rail to KoP. Not as good as, say, extending the R6, but better than using the 124 or 125 buses.

Aren't the SV and CC Metros still on the table too?

tw and Matt touched upon this, but there is definitely a need for transit that follows newer commuter patterns. All the regional rail lines go in and out of Center City. Center City is still the core of the region, but not everyone works there. What about a transit line that runs along the blue route, or along the Turnpike? It's going to be interesting to see how the River Line (the light rail system between Trenton and Camden) fares when it opens next month.

We needn't move anyone down any road. Just move electrons. Nobody does anything they need to be in person to do anymore. So just hook up local cube farms with high-speed net, route the video and phone to the main offices, and let the people work where they live.

You've got to be kidding, UT... who wants a cube farm in their neighborhood? The same zoning mindset and urge to get away from the "icky stuff" (aka anything commercial) that drove the development of the edge cities (including, for example, your neighborhood) will prevent new office parks (aka cube farms) from being built usefully close to where the large population growths are happening now. It's not a horrible idea (tho I personally have some issues with a complete lack of face to face), but it'd get NIMBY'ed to death.

There are always going to be people who prefer convenience , regardless of how many others prefer to move to the country. Try buying a place in Eagleview, Lionville. Just off the turnpike, it's a corporate park and housing development in one (complete with gym, clubhouse, restaurant, trails, playground, grocery store, and strip mall (dry cleaner, movie rental etc). 3-4 years ago you could get a nice unit in 'the gardens' for a little over 200K - now they're 4-500K and very rarely on the market.

Whoa nellie! We're not all hermits, you know. There are some of us that still make things for a living. Precious few, thanks to NAFTA, WalMart, Bush, ad infinitum, but we all can't push electrons for a living. :p
