LJ, you took the words right out of my mouth (or off my keyboard, as the case may be). Black and white thinking is a great way of turning every issue into a case of "us versus them." It is also intellectually lazy. "I'm right and you're stupid. " It does not lend itself to mutual understanding and the resolution of problems. Your example of "ragheads who view us as the great satan" is a classic example of the black and white thinking entertained by some members of the Muslem world. The result was 9/11. Did 9/11 solve anything for the Muslems? Not hardly. It only created hatred for Muslems here in the US and the rest of the world.

Just what is your point in listing all these pet peeves of yours? Do you want re-assurance that everyone feels the same way? Everyone is going to have a different take on the issues, and when they argue their reasons for their opinions, some of their thinking is going to be correct and some of it may be flawed. Very little in this world is all black or all white.

And by the way, I am very proud of some aspects of American culture, including the contributions made by black Americans.

OK, I was mostly just venting. Black & white for me is my answer to people who think anything goes, if it feels good do it, don't take a stand on anything, etc.

I'm really a happier camper (and more tolerant) than the post would indicate. And probably the most sincere part of my rant was the fact that I will & do treat everyone (in real life...not necesarily here in fantasy land) with respect & goodwill regardless of race, orienation, blah, blah, blah.

Bruce, yeah I hate those self important cell phone idiots.

Wolf, may be, may just be...do you have a hairy butt by any chance? ;-)

Ok, back to the topic:

I'm really feeling down right now. I haven't seen a single episode of the Donald Trump show, but have just been exposed to some hour long special about it.

Mostly what it consited of was how to get ahead by fucking people over. Then a nice little bit about how to teach your kids these same "survival skills". But ABC was trying to be fair and balanced so they asked people about ethics. Long story short they talked to people who said "you have to define your own personal ethics" and on ad nauseum.

I'm thinking maybe thats a wee bit of a problem now a days, young people without any sense of anything resembling common decency. And that attitude being reinforced over and over and over and over again on the networks.'
I noticed that behavior about a decade ago. Decency starts at home, however, when the home and the people in it are "indecent", that is where many problems start.

[b][quote]I see the world through just one set of eyes, right or wrong. I see many issues in black or white. If you are the decendant of a slave family, get over it. I am probably a descendant of a slave owner. and I ain't proud of it either. I've never owned one and you've never been one. If you're proud of the culture of blacks in the US today, you should be ashamed."

Hrm...interesting. I'm not even sure if I should touch this one, because quite frankly, I'm tired of trying to explain shit to certain people about the "hows" and "whys" of black folk. So, I'll just say that I am proud of my culture, and leave it at that.

I am very proud of my marriage and DO view gay marriage as a threat to the institution. I think lots more can be done to provide partners of any sex with some basic rights, but don't try to shove your lifestyle down my throat, I don't agree with it, but it is your own damn business, so keep it that way.
Funny. Many people don't even know that certain folk are even gay, so where is the intrusion? Gaydar isn't always accurate...

Can we stop with the out-sourcing, and down-sizing? You fired these people so that you can make a bigger profit. Period. The bottom line is THE ONLY THING that matters to you. Stop pretending that you care about your employees, keep on and you'll find there's no market for your crap when 85% of your market is making minimum wage.
Wow, something that I can agree on!

I'm curious: why is thinking that way such a problem?

Most important, if this was a honest post, then it ranks up there with some of the best. I don't care about the examples as much as I love its frankness; not politically correct. PC is how to lie. Details is those examples can be argued another time - currently are only minor examples to the major, original purpose of his post. I have not watched this Donald Trump 'lie to advance' TV show (if that is what it is). But the principles on which is the show is criticized are fundamentally important.

For example, maybe just once, the pope would get off his ass, acknowledge his church protected pediphiles, and deal with the problem. Acknowledge the "Voices of the Faithful" have been represented the church than many priests and bishops. Now maybe the pope does not have as much dislike of some people as blue58 has. But irrelevant since the pope does not even have the balls to admit he or his church was so wrong - as to even violate principles defined in the bible. Blue58 for pope - as soon as we democratically elect popes - because at least he is willing to state his opinions no matter how politically incorrect they may be.
