Oh, yes, I am an American. I don't know exactly why they move trick or treat but they do. Cincinnati has trick or treat on the 31st no matter what day it falls on but my suburb usually tries to have it on a friday or saturday night. You are correct, though, I do live in a pretty conservative area; it might be because of the Christians--there's a whole lot of alternatives to the evil, mind-controlling bacchanal that is Beggar's Night--like "Harvest Parties" (I've news for them, it's still all Pagan) but my absolute favorite is the "Hallowed King" party one Southern Baptist congregation holds every Halloween!

Ah, I think the difference is I don't live in a suburb--the idea of people in my neighborhood somehow getting together and deciding to change trick-or-treat night and then somehow conveying this information to everyone, and actually convincing everyone to do it... it just wouldn't happen. We're not anywhere near that unified or organized where I live.

I will be slaving over hot psychotics tonight, but will have in hand too many scary movies to watch in the course of a shift including Creepshow, The Legend of Hell House, Dementia 13, Something Wicked This Way Comes, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

"Something Wicked" is a superb film. It perfectly captures that elusive Ray Bradbury quality in a way that no other film ever has. It is the first movie I ever saw with Johnathan Price in it...he was *amazing* as Mr. Dark.
This is a film that is scary in a way that far too films are. It is scary because your imagination scares hell out of you, not because you see some graphically severed head rolling toward you. "Something Wicked" is not only one of my favorite Halloween films, it is one of my favorite films, period.
