Just think...what if, instead of dogs, they were 70-100 lb cats? Going after each other like those dogs were.

Absolutely, due to whatever reason, shot placement prolly played a big role there.
What Grav said , it dont matter if you have a Thermo nuke tipped .50 cal auto loader , if you cant hit what needs to be hit , yer just makeing noise
