I guess there are three prominent views being illustrated here:

1) There is NO God, and life appeared and evolved over millions of years to become what it is today. Evolution occurred as a series of accidents, where accidents which resulted in stronger organisms allowed those organisms more opportunity to reproduce and pass those "favorable accidents" to their offspring.

2) There IS a God (we'll use singular-male for brevity), and He used evolution over millions of years as a tool to guide the development of life.

3) There IS a God, and He created the universe (and all who inhabit it) about 6,000 years ago. For some reason, He provided a crushing amount of false evidence to to indicate that the universe (and Earth) are much older... such as fossilised remains.

Theory #1 has much to back it. It does not betray or contradict any credible evidence or logic. "Faith," by definition, is not based on logic.

In order to be true, both #2 and #3 require a Christian God to be a liar. If #2 is true, then the "divine, infallible" scriptures are full of lies about the creation of our world, stating that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, and that it was created in mere days. If #3 is true, then all of the dinosaur remains, oil deposits, diamonds, etc are all false evidence-- lies-- placed on Earth specifically to mislead us.

THAT is one big reason why I stopped believing in a Christain God at a young age, when I began to think for myself, much as children stop believing in Santa Clause when logic teaches them that he is an impossiblity. A "divine" God would not provide an orgy of evidence that He does not exist... that would be stupid and misleading, which are not divine traits. Nor would it be divine to fill "holy" scriptures with lies. There are some other ugly contradictions in Christianity, but I won't get into them now.

Don't get me wrong, I think that there may indeed be a Creator, and/or an afterlife, which is beyond my understanding. But I have evidence, and faith, that it is not the God of the bible. Logic, evidence, and reasoning lead me to conlcude that evolution DID occur, whether a creator had a hand in it or not.
