Since most of the usual suspects have weighed in, I'll go ahead and give this one up.
It's the top of the fuel valve on a butane lighter. Thanks for playing, tune in again next time for more "What Is It?".

The Metal Bar thingy? Burnished Stainless Steel Wolfgang Puck Signature Sushi Roller. ($49.95 at Macy's, and way better than that bamboo thing you struggle with making at-home sushi. This one includes a magic freezy liquid in the bars. Pop it in the freezer while you're preparing your sticky rice, and it will be the perfect temperature to keep your raw squid from getting too warm and growing botulism).

It is several hundred f*cking metal bar rare earth magnets. These are polarized along the long axis so that if you looked at the cylinder from the end and imposed an imaginary clock face on the surface, 9-3 would be North and 3-9 would be South. They're a lot of fun to doodle around with. They're strong but very tiny, maybe 3/8" long and less than 1/16" diameter. I think they'd be good in a project. Just don't know what project yet.
