My favorite was the quote from the dumbass (apparently emailed in as one of CNN's "iReporters") who said that at first he wasn't worried, but you know, now that there was 4 feet of water at his door and the eye hadn't even made landfall yet, he was thinking he was going to go ahead and put all his electronics on top of his fridge.

Edt: just noticed the number above--there are only 57K residents in Galveston total, and about 40% of those refused to evacuate. But it's still way too many idiots.

Glenn Campbell/

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying
Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
At Galveston, at Galveston

/Glenn Campbell

Here's a look back at the 1900 Galveston hurricane. Changed weather forecasting as we know it for the better.

I heard that some folks who evacuated for Gustav (not the stickbug Gustav) were angry that the storm wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. Huh? Because weather is usually so predictable? GTFO. We don't get 3 day notices for tornados...if we had any time at all you can bet I'd be looking for my friends with basements.

I just called a friend of mine who lives on the west side of Houston. They lost power and had some broken trees, but no major damage.

"Brand new recently cleared beach front property now available in Texas for resale to the highest bidder. Get it fast it will not last long. Prices are going up everyday. The sooner you buy the better. Be the first house on the block. Plenty of beach views available."
